What are the responsibilities and job description for the 2025-2026 Media Assistant position at Beaufort County School District?
- Maintains and updates computerized inventory of library holdings and patron information; maintains online card catalogs and other collections, circulates materials, and provides reference, research, and technical assistance for students and teachers.
- Schedules and video records or downloads instructional programs as requested by teachers; assists in evaluating quality and effectiveness of programs for classroom use; schedules and sets up audio/visual equipment in classrooms as needed for viewing.
- Assists students (individually or in small or large groups) in the use of reference materials and in the development of research skills; assists students in using electronic resources and application software.
- Prepares and distributes overdue notices; receives lost or damaged materials; prepares related financial reports.
- Performs general library duties, including receiving and processing new materials, cataloging, checking materials in/out, shelving materials and straightening shelves, weeding materials, mending books, preparing book displays, etc.
- Prepares and issues student library cards, when used.
- Assists Media Specialist in managing students and classes while in the Media Center.
- Assists in maintaining Media Center equipment and software; maintains and programs classroom televisions and projection devices.
- Assists in procuring library materials through in-library loan.
- Assists in conducting annual physical inventory of library materials.
- Performs duties of Media Specialist as necessary in his/her absence.
- Attends training, seminars and workshops, etc., to maintain and enhance job knowledge and skills.
- Searches standard print and online sources to verify information on order requests.
- Maintains databases and prepares information and statistical data for reports and special studies.
- Maintains, stacks, orders, or receives acquisitions; inputs catalog data.
- Designs and prepares exhibits of library materials.
- Assists in recruiting and managing volunteers in the media center.
- Assists in inventory and checkout of student textbooks.
- Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; OR
- 60 college credit hours from an accredited college or university; OR
- Satisfactory score on Educational Testing Service ParaPro Assessment.
