    POSITION PURPOSE: The School Psychologist is a credentialed professional with specialized knowledge regarding social, emotional, cognitive, physical, language, academic forces in children which affect the learning process. One of the essential means for achieving positive change in the child is through the use of advanced intervention, prevention, and follow-up techniques and processes as provided by professionally trained psychologists. The primary objective is the application of this specialized knowledge to ameliorate school related problems and to facilitate learning and development. The School Psychologist provides services to children, parents, teachers, administrators, paraprofessional staff, community agencies and the school system through a variety of special, unique methods.
    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
    • Conducts Psychological examinations of referred students.
    • .Interprets diagnosis to school personnel, other concerned professionals, parents, and the student.
    • Makes recommendations on ways to assist a student referred for psychological evaluation.
    • Conducts individual, group, or facilitative therapy for students with diagnosed Problems. (permission of the supervising psychologist required).
    • Participates in Special Services LD Team meetings. Participates in Special Services staffing committee meetings as requested.
    • Serves as a resource person concerning learning handicaps for teachers and other school personnel.
    • Participates in in-service training programs. Attends scheduled staff meetings and committee meetings as needed.
    • Keeps abreast of new developments in the field.
    ADDITIONAL DUTIES: Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Director of Special Education, Principal, Superintendent or other district office administrator as designated by the Superintendent.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Must have a valid South Carolina teaching certificate or be able to obtain one within 60 days from being hired.
    • A Master's degree with a major in psychology or counseling from an approved institution is required.
    EXPERIENCE:
    • Must have completed a program of study in Psychology from an accredited college or university.

    • Have regular and punctual attendance.
    • Follow all District policies, work procedures, and reasonable requests by the proper authorities.
