Summary Objective
(Temporary/Seasonal): The purpose of this position is to maintain a safe recreation facility to serve the public, teach swim lessons (adult/children/group/school/private), maintains pool chemicals, keep the facility clean, and answer patrons’ questions.
This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- Teaches group and private swim lessons, and other aquatic related classes.
- Aids in coaching, if necessary year-round recreational swim team, water polo, water aerobics, and other related aquatic programs.
- Provides lifeguard services to patrons in the pool and administers CPR/First Aid.
- Reviews American Red Cross lifeguard standards regularly to ensure ability to competently perform water rescue skills.
- Maintains a clean facility through the completion of daily and weekly cleaning tasks, divided by day. Daily cleaning tasks include sanitizing the bathrooms and ensuring tidiness in the office/pool deck.
- Assists with facility finances to include daily, weekly, monthly and annual passes and class fees.
- Performs water testing 3x per day to ensure that chemical levels are within a safe range for patron usage (determined by SC DHEC). Adjusting chemicals when necessary, including refilling drums of hazardous chemicals (i.e. liquid chlorine and muriatic acid).
- Enforces pool rules and facilitate lane sharing among patrons when the pool is busy to ensure that all patrons have a good experience while using the facility.
- Promotes and markets aquatic programs and facilities.
- Attends in-service training on a routine basis.
- Assists in maintaining various operational reports on attendance, inventory, first aid training, simulation activities and other relevant duties.
- Performs related work as assigned.
- Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent.
- Requires a short demonstration up to and including one year of related experience.
- Lifeguard certification.
- CPR certification.
- WSI certification.
- Bloodborne Pathogens/First Aid certification.
- Certified Pool Operator.
- Copies of one of the above certifications MUST BE SUBMITTED WITH APPLICATION. Applications without them will not be considered.
- Professional Rescuer certifications from the American Red Cross. Must have or obtain Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification within 60 days of hire.
