Beaufort Eye Center is a busy adult ophthalmology practice with three practicing surgeons and two medical optometrists. Optician
Duties:
- Assist customers in selecting and fitting eyeglasses and contact lenses based on their prescription and personal preferences.
- Take accurate measurements of customers' eyes, including pupillary distance,and seg heights, to ensure proper fit of eyewear.
- Interpret prescriptions written by optometrists or ophthalmologists to determine the appropriate lenses and frames for customers.
- Adjust and repair eyewear as needed, including replacing nose pads, temple tips, and screws.
- Educate customers on proper eyewear care and maintenance.
- Process orders for eyewear, including verifying insurance coverage and obtaining necessary authorizations.
- Maintain accurate records of customer information, prescriptions, and sales transactions.
- Keep up-to-date with the latest trends in eyewear fashion and technology.
- Notifying patients on status of eyewear
- Answering phones, scheduling appointments as needed.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or certification in opticianry preferred.
- Previous experience as an optician or in a similar role is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of optical systems and equipment used in the fitting of eyeglasses and contact lenses.
- Familiarity with senior care practices and understanding of the unique needs of elderly patients.
- Proficiency in medical records management and medical billing procedures.
- Experience working with electronic health record systems such as Revolution is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to perform tasks with a high level of accuracy.
- Knowledge of aseptic technique to ensure cleanliness and safety when handling eyewear.
- Basic understanding of retail math principles for pricing, discounts, and sales calculations.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with customers, colleagues, and healthcare professionals.
