Position Summary
The Lead Radiology Technologist is responsible for the daily operation of the Radiology Department. The Lead Radiology Technologist is responsible for coordinating patient scheduling and daily work assignments and serves as a supervisor and resource for the Imaging Technologists in the Radiology Department. They must have experience in all modalities of radiology the organization provides: X-ray, ultrasound, and mammography.

The Lead Radiology Technologist is responsible for the daily operation of the Radiology Department. The Lead Radiology Technologist is responsible for coordinating patient scheduling and daily work assignments and serves as a supervisor and resource for the Imaging Technologists in the Radiology Department. They must have experience in all modalities of radiology the organization provides: X-ray, ultrasound, and mammography.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Performs routine imaging procedures on adults, geriatric patients, adolescents, and pediatric age groups according to the policy/protocol manual and written orders.
- Utilizes department clinical protocols to obtain optimal quality imaging.
- Obtains detailed history from patient and medical record.
- Navigates electronic medical records and other information systems utilized to process imaging.
- Effectively completes and ensures that all electronic data is sent to its appropriate destination.
- Performs regulatory clerical functions.
- Prepares for and keeps certifications for the Radiology Department from the American College of Radiology, Department of Public Health (DPH) and other governing bodies departmental inspections and/or requirements.
- Directs and participates in the enforcement of Radiation safety practices.
- Ensures all quality control functions related to all radiology equipment are completed as required.
- Updates procedures, policies, and quality improvement as needed.
- Coordinates training and development of the imaging technologists, keeping them advised of technological changes.
- May have to work in different locations and assist other imaging modalities and/or clinical services.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
- Directly supervises all imaging technologists.
- Works closely with imaging Patient Service Representative and other imaging staff.
- Responds to patient and/or staff service and patient experience issues.
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
- Responsibilities include but are not limited to interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; performance evaluations; and addressing complaints.
- Collaborates with other department leadership to develop and implement methods to achieve established goals and objectives.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
- Minimum of an AA Degree in X-Ray Technology from AMA Approved School.
- Certification for ultrasound and mammography recommended.
- 2 years of leadership experience preferred.
- Must be certified with the South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association.
- Computer skills required, including Microsoft Office.
- Maintain current BLS certification.
- Possesses a valid South Carolina driver’s license and clean driving record.
