Position Summary
The School Based Health Assistant - Mobile Unit Driver promotes and supports School Based Health Centers (SBHC) objectives, assists in smooth operation and activities and fosters positive relationships with students, parents, school staff, community members, etc. Is responsible for transporting the mobile medical unit to predetermined sites of care, ensuring vehicle security, and maintenance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Distributes and collects appropriate enrollment and consent forms for student enrollment in School Based Health program.
- Verifies insurance for medical, dental, behavioral health, nutrition.
- Performs intake and processing of patients requesting medical/dental services.
- Demonstrates understanding of clinical responsibilities in processing patients, including performing CLIA waived laboratory testing, vision and hearing screenings, etc.
- Understands and complies with HIPAA regulations.
- Maintains current roster of active participants enrolled in SBHC.
- Provides timely communication with patients/families/school nurses to ensure quality in care.
- Demonstrates knowledge of agency billing system to facilitate accurate, timely submission of medical/dental School Based Health Center encounters.
- Ensures optimum operation of School Based Health Center through maintaining current supply inventories.
- Maintains good rapport and cooperative working relationships with school and ancillary school based staff.
- Travels between multiple SBHCs weekly.
- Computer skills: Microsoft office, Google Workspace
- Transports the mobile medical unit from the storage site to the site of service via established routes as scheduled. Coordinates the storage of the unit and the placement of the unit on service sites.
- Performs appropriate safety, security, and maintenance checks before and after daily operations, or as required. Contacts the appropriate organizational party if concerns arise.
- Provides security for all medical & office supplies, logs, security system, and any on-site personnel security problems.
- Responsible for the daily set-up and close-down of the mobile unit at each location, (including loading or unloading of materials, setting stabilizers, awning, stairs/rail, table/chairs, starting generator, verifying all systems operating, securing cab, refrigerator off, generator off, toilet secure, stair/rail up, all doors secure, all equipment secure, all cabinets locked and all chairs secure, etc.)
- Maintains CDL and safety education courses
- Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in medical office/assistant duties (i.e. billing, front desk, medical office assistant.)
- Graduate of school for medical assistants or certification as a nurse’s aide (CMA, MOA, CNA), preferred
- Current CPR certificate required.
- Current CDL class B and air brake endorsement.
- Current SC drivers’ license.
- Computer skills required: medical charting system, Microsoft Office Word and Excel
