PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Provide assistance for district stakeholders in need of translation language support; facilitate professional, formal, legal, and informational communications between School District personnel and persons whose primary language is Spanish.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
- Postsecondary (Bachelor’s) education preferred.
- Ability to deliver accurate translation of the written word from English into Spanish.
- Fluent Spanish speaker, with the ability to understand, read, speak, and translate in Spanish.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Ability to use computer software programs and applications such as Microsoft Word, Google Docs.
- Ability to type translations accurately.
- Ability to lead efforts to coordinate translation of district documents into other identified languages.
Characteristics Duties and Responsibilities:
- Translate all requested district documents from English to Spanish and vice versa.
- Interpret for district staff and parents/students as needed.
- Interpret at all requested meetings, conference calls, and video conferencing.
- Maintain interpretation/translation services log for data collection purposes.
- Maintain professional confidentiality with student records.

- Support implementation of district and campus programs.
- Communicate effectively with staff, students, parents, and the community.
- Relate to staff, students, and parents in ways that convey equality and mutual respect.
- Demonstrate skill in conflict resolution with administrators, parents, teachers, and/or the community.

- Work cooperatively with others in developing the mission and articulating a vision for the school program.
Other Responsibilities
- Comply with policies established by federal and state law, including but not limited to State Board of Education and local Board policy.
- Perform other community and media relations job-related duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Mental Demands
- Ability to interpret Spanish to English and English to Spanish fluently, both in speaking and writing.
- Maintain emotional control under stress.
- Work with frequent interruptions.
Physical Demands
- Light lifting and carrying, reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, repetitive hand motions; frequent bending, and stooping.
- Prolonged use of a computer.
Environmental Demands
- Normal office environment.
- May work prolonged or irregular hours.
- Regular travel to and from campuses.
