GENERAL DESCRIPTION :
Develops students' success in academics, interpersonal skills, and activities of daily living by implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and learning student progress / activities and outcomes; addressing students' specific needs; providing a safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Develops educational plans to meet the individual needs of students with specific academic deficits or to prevent learning deficits; E
- Collaborates with resource, general education, and support personnel regarding the development and implementation of student instructional plans; E
- Teaches special needs students, in accordance with appropriate district curriculum and individual student needs and goals; E
- Though use of direct instruction or co-teaching methodologies, provides access to the standards-based curriculum in individual, small or large group settings; E
- Conducts evaluation of student progress and participates in revision of the students' IEP's; E
- Plans and conducts parent conferences in an articulate and empathic manner; E
- Maintains necessary student records according to District Policy and statutes; E
- Demonstrates continuing professional growth;
- Provides direct instruction to students whose needs are identified in a written individualized education program; E
- Assesses students' social needs (e.g. behavioral, motor, development, communication), academic needs, progress, expectations, goals, etc. (e.g. developmental level, vocational abilities) for the purpose of evaluating student and family requirements, placement, and the success of the program; E
- Advises parents and / or legal guardian of student progress for the purpose of supporting expectations, developing methods for improvement and / or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment;
- Manages student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment; E
- Demonstrates continuing professional growth;
- Performs such other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned;
