Position Summary
Responsible for successful and efficient planning, purchasing, and inventory awareness of components and raw materials used in the manufacturing of personal care products. The position works with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and customers.
Works in conjunction with and in support of senior purchasing staff (Buyer III, and Purchasing Manager) in the tactical and strategic procurement of assigned commodities. Gathers and analyzes inventory levels and production system demands, generating quotations, and preparing purchase orders for procurement of materials. Familiar with most if not all basic purchasing concepts, practices, and procedures such as non-disclosure, request for quotation, agency, and the contractual relationship.
Responsibilities and Essential Duties
- Safeguard company confidential information, internally as well as externally, when soliciting quotations from suppliers by executing non-disclosure agreements, supplier set up, and establishing terms.
- Analyze and verify specifications for requests from internal departments. Retrieve, evaluate, analyze, and/or make recommendations to purchase inventory based upon the demand from the Company’s production system (sales orders and/or forecasts and practice effective Material Requirements Planning – MRP) and generate Requests for Quotations (RFQs).
- Obtain bids, place standing orders, verify cost information, process purchasing documents to ensure goods are properly received.
- Researches and provides constant feedback to department and management relative to material shortages and suppliers capacity and capabilities.
- With the support of Purchasing Manager, assists in development of contracts or service agreements with top suppliers.
- With respect to vendor consolidation, demonstrate creativity in developing cost-saving buying practices; maintain currency regarding business trends and market changes; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with suppliers.
- Assignments require ability to make decisions independently and solve problems.
- Have effective interpersonal and communication skills with all levels of employees and management. High degree of confidence, objectivity, tact, diplomacy and ethical conduct is essential.
Qualifications
Technical Skills Required
- Experience with MRP reporting is preferred.
- Strong math and computer skills.
- Competent with computer software, such as Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
Experience Required
- 2 to 4 years in Purchasing for Beauty/Personal Care, Food, Health, and/or pharmaceutical industry.
- Bachelor Degree preferred.
Physical Requirements
- The employee may be asked to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Works inside in an open office environment
- Frequent exposure to varying temperatures, loud noises, heavy machinery, fumes, or airborne particles, electrical, chemicals and moving parts.
- Prolonged use of computer screen.
