Job Summary

As a vital part of our operations, we are seeking a motivated and skilled Assistant Manager to join our bulk material team. The ideal candidate will have experience with customer service, sales and equipment operation related to bulk materials such as gravel, rock and soil. A mechanical background is not required but is a plus. This role requires an unwavering focus on safety, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate collaboratively with other team members.
Key Responsibilities:
- Exceptional Customer Service - Our bulk material yard is a high traffic, multi acre facility that serves hundreds of retail and commercial customers throughout the year.
- Front End Loader Operation or other heavy machinery to load and unload materials such as soil, gravel, rocks and other bulk material.
- Batching Operations: Operate and monitor the concrete batch plant, ensuring the accurate and efficient mixing of concrete materials, including sand, gravel, cement, and water.
- Maintenance & Repairs: Perform routine maintenance and repairs on yard machinery, including forklifts, trucks, trailers, and other equipment used in the yard.
- Equipment Inspections: Conduct regular inspections of all equipment and machinery to ensure they meet safety and performance standards.
- Preventative Maintenance: Implement and follow preventative maintenance schedules to reduce the likelihood of breakdowns and extend the lifespan of equipment.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and inspections, including parts used and time spent on repairs.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other yard staff, supervisors, and management to ensure that equipment and vehicles are operating at optimal performance levels.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe work environment.
Requirements:
- Previous experience operating a loader or heavy machinery is required.
- Ability to work in an outdoor environment and handle physically demanding tasks.
- Good communication skills and ability to work well within a team.
- A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions.
- Familiarity with a variety of mechanical systems, including diesel and gas engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues quickly and effectively.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and the ability to work safely around heavy equipment.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Good communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain high-quality standards.
You must have a willingness to work weekends, overtime and holidays as needed and a desire to contribute to our team culture with an approachable and proactive mindset. You must be able to lift 50 lbs. (bags of soil, large containers, and move products as needed).
