Job Summary
This position is supervisory work that ensures the safety and effectiveness of jail operations during specific hours of work at the Beaver County Jail. This position is responsible for supervising Corrections Officers, processing of new and released inmates, maintaining inmate accountability, controlling access within the jail, and maintaining order within the facility. Incumbent ensures subordinates are performing their given responsibilities. The jail Lieutenant may act in the Warden’s capacity in his/her absence. Work is performed under the general overall direction of the Warden.
Essential Functions

- Assigns, reviews, plans and coordinates the work activities of employees. Provides work instruction and employee training. Maintains work standards and evaluates employee work performance. Acts as the Warden in his/her absence.
- Processes new and released inmates; secures inmates personal belongings, photographs and administers court ordered urinalysis.
- Ensures the safety of inmates; maintains order and behavior of the inmate population, conducts searches, lock-downs, head counts, and conducts routine perimeter checks. Participates in inmate misconduct proceedings.
- Ensures inmates are properly housed and released at appropriate time.
- Supervises daily housing unit activities, daily rounds, lock boxes usage.
- Work release Coordinator
- Ensures a safe environment for staff and visitors to the jail; (Visitation clerk) and escorts inmates.
- Creates shift reports daily, conducts placement/vacancy reports. Makes reports, disciplinary recommendations, court appearances; conducts court ordered inmate line-ups.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Training, Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED; supplemented by college level course work or vocational training in criminal justice; supplemented by up to three (3) years previous experience and/or training involving corrections sergeant; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
· Valid driver’s license.
· First Aid Certification
· CPR Certification

Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise the judgment, decisiveness and creativity required in situations involving the evaluation of information against sensory, judgmental, or subjective criteria, as opposed to that which is clearly measurable or verifiable.
Physical Responsibility:
This Position has been observed as very physical and in the very heavy-duty classification. Occasionally lifting objects over 100lb, frequently lifting/carrying of 50 lbs. or more with frequent walking/standing as the possibly is always present for a cell extraction or other prison disturbance.
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require visual perception and discrimination. Some tasks require oral communications ability.
Environmental Factors: Tasks may risk exposure to violence, disease or blood pathogenic substances.
