What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-time Dental Hygienist position at Beaver Dam Dental?
General Position Description: The primary responsibility of the hygienist is to provide oral hygiene care within the guidelines of the State of Wisconsin Hygiene Practice Act while providing a positive experience for the patient.
Clinical Procedures include:
- Nonsurgical periodontal therapy
- Prophylaxis
- Radiographs
- Periodontal exam and charting
- Patient education and oral hygiene instruction
- Administer local anesthetic
- Apply sealants following doctor’s diagnosis
- Apply fluoride when indicated
- Chlorhexidine irrigation
Other Responsibilities:
- Establish a friendly, trusting relationship to help ensure a positive patient experience
- Assist doctor in identifying oral conditions with clinical evaluation, interview and photos
- Maintain a timely schedule
- Maintain dental equipment and instruments
- Perform sterilization techniques and room setup/disinfection per OSHA guidelines
- Maintain accurate patient charting
- Review charts for incomplete treatment, needed x rays, medical concerns, previous conditions
- Assist with recare protocol and reappoint hygiene patients to accomplish 80% reappointment goal
- Maintain hygiene supply stock to make hygiene bags
- Maintain stock of hygiene bags
- Maintain and organize hygiene supplies in basement. Put away orders, break down and dispose of boxes
- Deep cleaning operatory in down time (scrub floors, windows and blinds)
- Assist in sterilization area
- Assist with laundry
- Assist other hygienists with perio charting and cleaning rooms when available
- Assist with emergency patients
- Cross train for front office duties such as answering phones
- Package biohazard and call for pick-up when needed
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Associate/Bachelor’s Degree in Dental Hygiene
- License to practice dental hygiene in the State of Wisconsin
- License to administer local anesthesia
- Maintain continuing education requirement as mandated to maintain licensing
- CPR certification (Mandated by RDH license)
- Advocate for practice
- Knowledge of practice management software
- Ability to maintain effective communication with all team members
- professional, upbeat demeanor
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients to ensure acceptance of treatment
- Maintain OSHA and HIPAA standards
- Complete any continuing education as needed or requested by the office
- Maintain professional appearance
Physical Requirements:
- Assist with transfer of patients from wheelchair to the dental chair
- Ability to lift a maximum of 50 pounds to unload supplies
- Ability to walk up and downstairs
- Ability to alternate between periods of standing and sitting
Available Hours include:
Mondays: 8-5
Fridays: 8-4
