General
Key Responsibilities
Provide legal and regulatory support to Beazley, which includes :
Research, analyze and communicate orally and in writing regulatory requirements relevant to forms and rates
Help draft endorsements to conform policy wording to regulatory requirements
Review and revise applications, declarations pages and policy forms to ensure regulatory compliance
Analyze, research and draft responses to state questions or criticisms
Interact with regulators as necessary
Ensure legislative changes and proposals relevant to their assigned states are properly monitored, and that colleagues, management and affected personnel are advised accordingly
Perform regulatory research and drafting projects
Develop and implement resource and training materials and programs
Review and provide input regarding compliant implementation of various underwriting and underwriting support practices, guidelines and procedures
Assist in developing and implementing various measures necessary for compliance throughout the organization, including drafting bulletins
Identify issues reportable to various boards and committees and draft synopsis of same.
Engage with the technology used within the function.
Research and analyse laws, regulations and sub-regulatory materials
Provide written and verbal legal opinions on a variety of legal issues
Draft agreements, contracts and other legal documents
Communicate and negotiate with external parties (regulators, external counsel)
Manage outside legal counsel to ensure cost effective and efficient legal services
Review and sign off on marketing materials

Comply with any specific responsibilities necessary for your role as outlined by your line manager, the Culture & People or assurance teams (compliance, risk, internal audit) and ensure you keep up to date with developments in these areas. This may include, amongst others, Beazley's underwriting control standards, Beazley's claims control standards, other Beazley standards and customer relationship management.
Carry out additional responsibilities as individually notified, either through your objectives or through the learning management system. These may include membership of any Beazley committees or working groups.
Education and Qualifications
Juris Doctor and member of the bar in good standing in at least one state
Skills and Abilities
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Strong legal research skills, with a focus on insurance regulatory research
Ability to determine, understand and analyze legal / regulatory requirements and their impact on insurance contracts and business practices and plans, develop solutions
Attention to detail, strong organizational skills and ability to work on multiple tasks
Ability to interact and work collaboratively and constructively with various people at various levels within and outside the organization
Ability to appreciate the importance of, track, and meet deadlines
Professional, responsible and responsive approach to role and functions
Computer skills - good working knowledge of MS Office
Knowledge and Experience
Experience in commercial lines property and casualty insurer preferable
Understanding of the need for accurate and timely management information
Knowledge and understanding of all forms of reinsurance advantageous

Salary for this role will be tailored to the successful individual's location and experience. The expected compensation range for this position is $135,000-$145,000 per year plus discretionary annual bonus.
