Emergency Department Job Summary
The Emergency Department Nurse provides critical patient care by administering medications, conducting clinical treatments, and monitoring patient conditions. They coordinate with healthcare teams to ensure comprehensive patient care and facilitate timely discharge and education for patients and families.

Essential Functions
- Performs plan of care intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, as well as other medical care treatment.
- Documents patient care given.
- Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate to care team, physician, patient, and family.
- Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
- Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
- Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
- Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.
Associate's degree Required
Bachelor's Degree Preferred Required Skills
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
ACLS Certification required after 6 months in ICU. PALS Certification required after 6 months in ICU. CCRN Certification preferred within 2 years for experienced ICU RNs or within 3 years for new grad RNs. Successful completion of a Basic Dysrhythmia exam within 90 days. *BLS obtained within 30 days of hire date Licenses: Current Alabama RN Licensure or Compact License that includes AL
