Job Summary
As a Structural Mechanics Engineer at BPMI, you will perform engineering evaluations and analyses and make engineering decisions for all aspects of assigned tasks.
Essential Duties:
- Lead structural evaluations, provide technical consultation, and guide customers on the analysis, design, and compliance of power plant components to applicable design codes and program standards.
- Execute structural analysis utilizing skills such as: engineering mechanics, finite element analysis, thermal/mechanical analysis, fracture mechanics, heat transfer, dynamics, shock, vibration, fluid dynamics, and related technologies.
- Utilize engineering analysis and computer simulation modeling applications such as finite element analyses, post processing software, etc. and apply scripting and programming on limited basis.
- Review and evaluate equipment specifications and vendor proposals for overall structural requirements.
- Assess adequacy of component structural evaluations performed by suppliers to demonstrate the component structural integrity through independent verification and/or technical reviews.
- Represent BPMI at technical meetings with suppliers, other prime contractors and the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program representatives.

Minimum Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Applied Mechanics or other related discipline from an accredited college or university.
- A Minimum of four (4) or more years of relevant experience.
- Requires a security clearance; however, all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy security clearance is required.
Preferred Job Requirements:
- Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Applied Mechanics or other related discipline from an accredited college or university.
- Experience in mechanical analysis/design, with emphasis on structural analysis and material behavior requirements.
- Demonstrated experience using finite element analysis and computer-aided engineering techniques.
- Proven track record of effective written and verbal communication skills and creative problem-solving capabilities.
- Working knowledge of some or all of the following: engineering mechanics, fracture mechanics, heat transfer, dynamics, shock, vibration, fluid dynamics, or related technology.
- Familiarity with pressure vessel design codes such as the ASME pressure vessel code.
- Experience in Python programming, data analytics, or relevant coding languages.
