Job Summary:
In this role, you will assist in the performance of office services functions, such as space allocation, staff meetings, catering, office moves, facility operations, security and access control, telecommunications, mail and shipping, messenger service, travel, office supplies, and furniture and equipment. Your knowledge of the office space will ensure unanticipated circumstances are successfully addressed. The Facilities Maintenance Technician will primarily support Bechtel’s Headquarters office in Reston, Virginia, while also providing assistance to Washington, DC office locations. Relocation assistance is not authorized for this position. #LI-KL1
Major Responsibilities:
General Maintenance & Operations
- Inspect and maintain supplemental systems HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems
- Perform regular facility inspections for safety and maintenance needs
- Oversee preventive maintenance for equipment
- Conduct safety inspections and audits to ensure compliance with building codes and regulations
- Familiar with fire safety systems and assist with security systems
- Support coordination of emergency preparedness drills and response plans
- Manage recycling and waste disposal programs
- Implement energy saving measures
Vendor & Contract Management
- Coordinate third-party service providers for maintenance and repairs
- Help oversee construction or renovation projects with contractors
- Interface with the landlord’s property management team to address building-specific issues
Employee Support & Shared Spaces
- Respond to facility-related service requests
- Support mailroom operations and office logistics
- Set up and maintain shared spaces, including conference rooms and pantries
- Install and repair office furniture
- Mount TVs, whiteboards, artwork, and other items
General Repairs & Emergency Response
- Perform painting, carpentry, and general repairs
- Respond to facility emergencies
- Manage emergency repairs and restoration efforts
- Document incidents and conduct root cause analyses
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires 2-4 years of related experience.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Must be available to be on-call as needed to support both the Reston, VA, and Washington, DC, office locations.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word); skills assessments may be administered to evaluate proficiency.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including grammar, spelling, and professional correspondence.
- Knowledge of office services practices and procedures.
- Familiarity with automation systems and the ability to learn new technologies quickly.
- Effective interpersonal and organizational skills.
