Project Overview:
Bechtel and Westinghouse Electric Company have partnered to deliver the first AP1000 nuclear power reactors in Poland for our customer, the Polish Entity Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe (PEJ). Bechtel will be the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for the project. As the EPC, our responsibilities will include providing the design for the Turbine Island and Balance of Plant as well as the construction of the entire facility. This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity, and we are looking for the talent that will help expand Poland’s nuclear base and build a strong and long-lasting energy future for generations to come.
Position Summary:
- As a Structural/Architectural Designer, you will be helping to execute assignments concerned with specialized or unique engineering requirements in a global business unit.
- This involves exploration of the subject area and may involve the development of novel concepts, approaches, and solutions.
- You will be interfacing and coordinating with other engineering disciplines and the client in the development of the design.
- Upon initial hire and onboarding, the position will require full time presence in the Reston, Virginia project office.
- Part-Time telework flexibility may be an option as the project progresses.
Responsibilities:
- This role will support design development structural & Architectural engineering designs for the project by preparing studies, drawings, and evaluations, in accordance with applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements.
- Work with other architects, structural designers/engineers and technical disciplines in a team environment.
- Originate and check Civil/Structural/Architectural deliverables, including architectural & structural steel design drawings.
- Originate and check Civil/Structural/Architectural deliverables, including architectural & structural concrete forming and reinforcing design drawings.
- Report design quantities compared to estimated quantities.
- Participate in project design/model reviews.
- Participate in constructability reviews.
- Coordinate closely with other technical disciplines in executing work as an integrated team.
Qualifications and Skills:
Basic Qualifications:
- AA/AS degree with 1.5 years of related design experience
- Must be authorized to live and work in the US without sponsorship.
- Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 2D drafting required using Revit.
- 3D modeling required.
- Must be familiar with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Knowledge of construction materials and construction details and techniques.
- Knowledge of technical responsibilities of other disciplines associated with Facilities Design.
- Experience creating design drawings using Revit (Architectural or Structural).
- Ability to execute the detailed design drawings.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in the architectural & structural design (steel and concrete) for Nuclear Quality and Safety Environment.
- AA in civil/structural engineering or engineering technology.
- Experience working with procedures meeting quality assurance programs such as ISO-9000.and /or NQA-1.
- Experience with use or knowledge of MicroStation structural suite(s) and/or SmartPlant.
- Construction field experience.
- Experience with AP1000 Nuclear Power Plant Design.
- Prior experience working in a Nuclear Quality and Safety Environment.
