Position: Field Technician
Hours: 8am – 4:30pm
Wages: $15‐$18 per hour, DOE
The Field Technician will be responsible for inspecting general tasks, maintenance, and repairs on the public water system facilities and equipment in the water distribution system. This is an entry level position with no minimal experience required with opportunity to learn and obtain licensing in the water utility trade.
Qualifications include:
· High School Diploma or GED
· Valid Class C Texas Driver’s License
· Ability to attend class, study & test for TCEQ Water Operator Licensing
· Computer & tablet literate for assigned task work
· Skills – skill in operating a variety of hand tools preferred
· Abilities – Able to lift 50lbs
· Ability to work well with others and bring positive morale to the workplace daily
Duties to Learn:
· Install, read, test and repair water meters, hydrant testing and maintenance of water distribution apparatuses.
· Maintain water pumping and storage facilities.
· Perform routine and preventative maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
· Assist with major equipment maintenance and repairs as needed.
· Perform on-call duties as assigned.
· General mechanical, plumbing and repair and diagnosis.
· Reading and comprehending maps, diagrams, regulations, and policies
· District geography and street locations
· Environmental standards and compliance requirements
· Use safe working practices in the performance of duties.
· Perform other related duties as required.
Skills & Ability:
· Work as part of a crew, or alone, whose primary responsibility is to water distribution system general tasks, maintenance and repair.
· Maintain regular, predictable, and punctual attendance.
· Work a flexible schedule, which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
· Ability to work under adverse weather conditions.
· Ability to read simple maps and drawings, pick up trash, keep storage areas clean, orderly, and in safe working conditions.
· Ability to learn knowledge of safety regulations to work safely with equipment used in utility maintenance work.
· Ability to learn to work with various types of equipment including pumps, generators, service trucks, mowers, wrenches, hand and power saws, hammers of various sizes, grinders, shovels, and drills.
· Ability to learn to work on water lines without contaminating to public water supply of various sizes, grinders, shovels, and drills.
