What are the responsibilities and job description for the Material Handler-2nd Shift (2pm-10 pm Monday - Friday) position at Bedford Paper?
A Material Handler I operates an industrial forklift, clamp or scissor lift to move material. They are accountable for general fleet inspections of forklifts, keeping the machine operational by supplying raw materials, staging of finished goods and loading and unloading trucks.
Primary Responsibilities
· Reads material staging sheets, shipping orders, and determines items to be moved, gathered, or distributed.
· Scan, move, and organize material in and out of inventory.
· Ensure every product is properly labeled with description, quantity and placed accordingly to maintain product flow and prevent distribution disruptions.
· Load product into appropriate trailers accurately and without damage.
· Ability to read and understand loading diagrams.
· Timely and effectively supply all converting machines with appropriate raw materials and properly tag and stage finished goods for accurate inventory tracking.
· Safely operate a clamp truck, scissor lift, and forklift.
· Weigh and count specified material, and record information.
· Perform pre-shift inspection and cleaning of equipment and lift trucks to ensure overall safety and efficiency.
· Continually inspect the quality of all inbound and outbound shipments.
· Stack material in a safe and efficient manner.
· Multi-task in a high production output environment.
· Able to follow instruction as directed by the Transportation Coordinator, Material Handler II, and Logistics and System Manager.
· Maintain a clean, safe, organized work area, and submit work orders if needed.
· All other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
· Must be 18 or older.
· Must have high school diploma, or G.E.D.
· Forklift Certification preferred.
· Previous forklift & clamp truck experience in a manufacturing environment a plus.
· Ability to operate scanners for inventory control.
· Working knowledge of ERP system.
· Positive attitude with a solid team mentality.
· Strong work ethic with an exceptional ability to learn and a desire to continuously improve.
· Ability to communicate effectively in a diverse work environment.
· Strong attention to detail and time management.
· Reliable with a great attendance record and work history.
· Ability to work a flexible schedule when needed.
· Self-motivated person who can work with limited Supervision.
· Prolonged periods of sitting.
· Ability to lift 50 pounds and work using hands/fingers to handle/feel, reaching with hands/arms, climbing, balancing, kneeling, twisting, and turning to see behind you.
· Pre-employment drug screening and background check required.
