Description:
Special Education Teachers for Extended School Year Prepare and instruct students in small groups and individualized work for reading and math per IEP goals
Responsibilities:
Ability to write IEP Goals and Objectives
Demonstrate knowledge of the principles, standards, and strategies for educating children as established by the MA Department of Early Education and Care/DESE.
Be familiar with the principles and standards established by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (for preschool position).
Guide the learning process toward the achievement of district and school curriculum goals.
Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and communicate these objectives to students.
Plan instruction based upon explicit goals regarding what students should know and be able to do.
Create or provide learning experiences that develop students’ abilities and require the application of thinking and functional skills.
Employ a variety of instructional strategies that consider individual learning styles and performance levels.
Assess student learning on a regular basis using multiple forms of formative assessment in order to measure a child’s functioning in the relevant developmental domains.
Use formative and summative assessment data to inform instruction; provide reports of student progress as needed.
Create a classroom-learning environment that is engaging, orderly, secure and appealing for students and in which mutual respect is shown.
Communicate student progress and development to parents.
Provide written assessments, referrals and evaluations when necessary for students with special needs. Participate in IEP meetings as required.
Model learning and behavior consistent with the expectations for students.
Attend staff or team meetings and serve on staff committees as necessary.
Perform other such duties as assigned
Collaborate with colleagues to improve curriculum and instructional effectiveness for all students.
Essential Functions of the Job:
Build positive relationships with students in support of their academic, functional, and social development.
Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students.
Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
Employ instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives.
Assess the accomplishments of the students on a regular basis and provide timely progress reports.
Additional Information:
Master's Degree Preferred in Special Education
Experience with ABA required
Appropriate Massachusetts licensure
