Title: Physics Teacher (High School)

License: Grade 8-12 Physics License

Job Description:

This position is responsible for teaching 5 sections of science courses, typically Grade 9 physics and can include AP Physics or an elective.  

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of subject areas as outlined in the MA Frameworks

  2. Constantly monitor the safety and well-being of students, particularly when students are participating in a hands-on activity using tools and lab equipment

  3. Provide students with opportunities to become technologically competent

  4. Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and communicate these objectives to students

  5. Use informal and formal assessments to identify strengths and weaknesses

  6. Appreciate cultural diversity and the importance of communications skills reflecting sensitivity to the feelings of all persons

  7. Prepare lessons that reflect adaptation for individual student differences

  8. Help students set achievement expectations and evaluate their progress

  9. Administer appropriate assessments to measure progress and use the resulting data to inform instruction

  10. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other required documentation

  11. Communicate, including electronically, student progress and development to parents

  12. Attend and participate in faculty meetings

  13. Participate in professional growth opportunities

  14. Participate in continuous refinement of the instructional program and the overall learning environment

  15. Use preparation/planning time to include participating as a team member in the continuous improvement process

  16. Carry out the school’s disciplinary code and procedures in a fair and just manner

  17. Any other relative duties or responsibilities as requested by the Building Principal and/or Program Administrator consistent with the BEA Contract

  18. Collaborate with colleagues to improve curriculum and instructional effectiveness for all students

Physical and Environmental Demands:

The physical and environmental demands described here are representative of those that must  be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  1. Stamina for 8 hours of student instruction and supervision

  2. Must be able to safely lift and/or move equipment and supplies as needed in the course of classroom instruction

Additional Information:

Massachusetts Physics Teacher License 8-12 Certification Preferred

SEI Endorsement

Master’s Degree Preferred

Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check (C.O.R.I)

Successful completion of National Background check (fingerprinting)

Salary/Benefits:

Per BEA and BPS contract.
