VITA Tax Program Lead Intake Specialist

Bedford-Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation, founded in 1967, is the nation’s first community development corporation nestled in the heart of Central Brooklyn in Bed-Stuy. About the Role

The Intake Specialist provides overall support to the Economic Solution Center. He / she is the first point of contact to clients visiting the Economic Solution Center. The Intake Specialist performs the initial triage of all clients to determine the assistance needed including preparing taxes. The Intake specialist will assure that the client has appointments to the appropriate unit within the department and must perform a quality check on all client demographics and financials prior to having the years’ tax return completed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Greet customers to create a pleasant atmosphere
  • Identify and determine if clients are best served by in-person, self-prep or virtual services
  • Screen each client for service need
  • Determine that the client has all of the necessary information to complete the return (i.e., Forms W-2,1099, social security cards and picture ID)
  • Have clients sign the check-in log (walk-in or appointment)
  • Assist the client in completing documentation if needed
  • Determine the type of assistance needed by the client and direct clients to tax preparers and to other services provided at site according to the client needs.
  • Monitor Site customer traffic and coordinate with the site manager to insure that there is sufficient time to serve the client
  • Maintain the confidentiality of the client information
  • Assist in other administrative duties, including file maintenance and storage
  • Some evening and weekend hours will be required

What you bring to the role

  • Previous customer service experience a MUST
  • Knowledge of taxes a plus
  • Good writing and communication skills
  • Must be comfortable working with diverse population
  • Knowledge of foreign languages a plus
  • Ability to complete tasks completely and accurately
  • MUST complete funder mandated training and pass an exam per the IRS.
