Position Summary
The Senior Manager, Communications touches all the facets of the business, working with each Bedrock team to shed light externally on our portfolio and work within Detroit and Cleveland. This role is responsible for the oversight of external communication strategies and policies. The position is hands-on with conducting research, compiling reports, establishing metrics, and developing, implementing, and enforcing the company communication plans and strategies. The communications team is Bedrock’s media liaison, with a focus on putting Bedrock on the national commercial real estate map.

Position Summary
The Senior Manager, Communications touches all the facets of the business, working with each Bedrock team to shed light externally on our portfolio and work within Detroit and Cleveland. This role is responsible for the oversight of external communication strategies and policies. The position is hands-on with conducting research, compiling reports, establishing metrics, and developing, implementing, and enforcing the company communication plans and strategies. The communications team is Bedrock’s media liaison, with a focus on putting Bedrock on the national commercial real estate map.
Essential Funtions
- Contributes to the development of and oversees the execution of external communications strategies.
- Leads and manages at least one Communications team member. Fosters a collaborative and high-performance culture.
- Collaborates to develop and disseminate communications materials including but not limited to press releases, fact sheets, executive bios; develops key messages and talking points for impact and consistency.
- Partners with internal and external stakeholders to plan and execute media events.
- Establishes and maintains strong working relationships across the organization and throughout the Rock Family of Companies (FOC), as well as external peers including press and news media organizations, business leaders, community groups, City officials, and the general public.
- Develops and implements effective communications plans and strategies to amplify Bedrock initiatives and promote Bedrock efforts, locally, regionally, and nationally.
- Prepares spokespeople and manages interviews, virtually and in-person.
- Provides public relations counsel to Bedrock leadership in collaboration with the Vice President, Communications, and other Communications leaders across the FOC.
- Establishes metrics to determine the effectiveness of the communications program.
- Contributes to media monitoring and reporting activities, including the compilation of daily news clip and quarterly status reports; analyzes and communicates data to drive decisions.
- Interfaces regularly with social media and internal partners to optimize communications across all owned, earned and opportunistic media channels.
- Works closely with community stakeholders and organizations to coordinate information regarding communications and media activities.
- Consults with management and recommends actions to improve external organizational communications.
- Vets’ requests for speaking engagements, seeks out (where appropriate) and coordinates such engagements.
- Identifies and evaluates opportunities for company, project and team member awards and accolades; completes submission process with support from partners, as relevant.
- Manages and directs contractor(s) and consultant(s), as applicable.
- Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with Bedrock policies and procedures.

- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Business or related field or equivalent education, training, and experience (Required)
- Approximately of 5-10 years of experience in communications, public relations, management, strategy, or analytical consulting (Required)
- Prior leadership experience (highly preferred)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and media monitoring tools/services
- Ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders across the organization
- Ability to work well under pressure, handling multiple projects and deadlines
- A keen eye to determine the right communications methods, channels, and cadence to deliver messages
- Excellent communication, including strong verbal and writing skills
- Awareness of all relevant media sources and consistent attention to the news cycle
