Indigo Manor is seeking an experienced Long-Term Care Registered Nurse to join our Nursing Leadership Team as a Staff Development/Infection Preventionist. In this critical role, you will lead infection prevention and staff development initiatives, ensuring a safe and compliant environment for both residents and staff.
To be a successful member of the Nursing Leadership Team, you must be able to:
- Participate in completing the facility assessment annually to determine the knowledge and skills required to meet residents' needs.
- Identify and prioritize educational needs through the completion of an educational needs assessment, based on the facility assessment.
- Assist in planning, scheduling, and conducting orientation programs for all personnel.
- Review educational content to ensure alignment with current standards and facility policies. Develop or revise content as needed and utilize external resources such as consultants or e-learning systems.
- Schedule training sessions flexibly to minimize disruption to resident care and ensure ample opportunities for staff to attend. Post training notices in advance.
- Education, training, experience, and certification in infection control and prevention.
- Specialized training in infection prevention and control through accredited continuing education.
- A Nursing A degree from an accredited college or university, or graduation from an approved RN program.
- Two years of experience as an RN.
As a Staff Development/Infection Preventionist, your responsibilities will include:
- Developing and implementing an infection prevention and control program to prevent, recognize, and control infections, ensuring a safe and sanitary environment.
- Establishing facility-wide systems for preventing, identifying, reporting, investigating, and controlling infections and communicable diseases among residents, staff, and visitors.
- Developing written policies and procedures for infection prevention, in accordance with current standards and recognized guidelines.
- Overseeing the facility's antibiotic stewardship program to promote appropriate antibiotic use.
- Managing resident care activities that increase infection risk, such as catheter care, wound care, incontinence, and skin care.
- Leading the Infection and Prevention Control Committee and developing action plans to improve infection control practices.
- Participating in the QAA (Quality Assurance and Assessment) Committee and performing additional duties as assigned.
- Conducting an annual infection control risk assessment and participating in the annual facility assessment review process.
- Reviewing and revising the infection prevention program and its policies as needed, based on changes to the facility assessment or current practices.
- Providing education related to infection prevention principles, policies, and procedures to staff, residents, and families (as appropriate).
- Ensuring that public health authorities are notified of any reportable diseases.
- Collaborating with other departments to fulfill requirements related to occupational health and safety, including employee health.
- Maintaining thorough documentation of infection prevention and control activities.
