Position: FFA Assistant Advisor (Non-Teaching)
Position Overview:
The Lay FFA Assistant Advisor plays a vital supporting role in improving the quality of Agriculture Life Science education and leadership development through active involvement in FFA programming. This position is non-teaching and requires flexible availability outside of regular school hours, including evenings, weekends, and summer events.
Primary Objectives:
The Assistant Advisor will work in partnership with the Lead FFA Advisor to:
A. Enhance the quality of Agriculture Life Science instruction, counseling, and leadership programs to ensure success for all students.
B. Support strategies that integrate academic learning with Agriculture Life Science education.
C. Provide guidance to students in agriculture, food, and natural resources regarding career pathways, continued education, and workforce readiness.
D. Facilitate equitable and educational experiences for students to support career and college preparation.
E. Promote youth leadership and strengthen FFA as an essential component of student development.
F. Equip students with the skills necessary to succeed in a competitive, global economy.
G. Foster agricultural literacy and awareness among students.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The following activities will be performed primarily outside of regular school hours:
FFA & Leadership Development Support
- Serve as a chaperone and support person during FFA-related events and off-campus activities.
- Support the local FFA chapter in leadership, citizenship, and cooperative initiatives at the district, area, state, and national levels.
Specific Commitments:
- National FFA Convention (Indianapolis):
- Supervise students during evening off-campus activities.
- Commitment: 1 day
Greenhouse Activities and Sales:- Assist during after-school and weekend greenhouse events.
- Commitment: Fall: 1 day / Winter: 1 day / Spring: 2 days
Greenhouse Maintenance:- Help water and maintain greenhouse plants outside of regular hours as needed.
- Estimated Time: 2 days
Leadership Development Events (LDE Contest – March):- Supervise and transport students as needed for a Saturday contest.
- Commitment: 1 day
Indiana FFA State Convention (Purdue University):- Assist in supervising and transporting students to and from the event, including overnight supervision.
- Commitment: 3 days, 3 nights
Compensation and Flexibility:
This position includes a stipend paid in disbursements. If a work-related conflict prevents participation in a specific event or activity, advance notice will be provided, and the corresponding portion of the stipend (e.g., third disbursement) will not be accepted.
