Job Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Activity Assistant to join our team in a flexible position. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for our residents through engaging activities and programs and have flexible hours from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm throughout the week. This position requires a passion for working with individuals, particularly those facing aging issues or disabilities, and an understanding of the importance of recreational therapy in long-term care settings.
Responsibilities
- Assist in planning, organizing, and implementing recreational activities tailored to the interests and needs of residents.
- Facilitate group activities that promote social interaction, cognitive stimulation, and physical engagement.
- Provide support to residents during activities, ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Collaborate with other staff members to create a welcoming environment that encourages participation.
- Document resident participation and feedback to help improve future programming.
- Assist with individual care needs as required, including those related to dementia care and other aging issues.
- Foster relationships with residents to encourage engagement and enhance their overall experience.
Skills
- Knowledge or experience in recreational therapy or related fields is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with home community care practices and aging issues counseling.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on empathy and compassion for working with individuals with disabilities.
- Experience in nursing home settings or long-term care facilities is a plus.
- Ability to assist residents effectively while promoting independence and dignity.
- Excellent communication skills to interact positively with residents, families, and team members.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving and adaptability in a dynamic environment.
