Job Summary
The Dispatcher is critical in ensuring freight's efficient and timely movement by coordinating drivers, loads, and routes. This position requires strong organizational skills, effective communication, and the ability to solve problems in a fast-paced environment. The dispatcher is the main point of contact between drivers, customers, and internal teams to ensure smooth operations and exceptional service delivery. This position reports to the Director of Operations and operates on an in-office work schedule.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assign loads to drivers based on availability, location, and capacity.
- Plan and optimize routes to ensure timely deliveries while minimizing fuel and operational costs.
- Monitor driver schedules, hours of service (HOS), and compliance with safety regulations
- Serve as drivers' main point of contact, providing updates, load details, and support.
- Maintain open communication with customers, providing real-time updates on truck status.
- Address driver issues or concerns promptly and escalate as needed.
- Track shipments from dispatch to delivery to ensure on-time performance.
- Update dispatch software and systems with accurate load, driver, and customer information.
- Coordinate with internal teams (e.g., customer service, maintenance) to resolve delays or issues.
- Resolve unexpected challenges like driver delays, breakdowns, or route changes.
- Develop contingency plans to address disruptions and minimize downtime.
- Monitor weather, traffic, and road conditions to adjust routes as necessary.
- Maintain records of driver performance, dispatched loads, and delivery times.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, DOT regulations, and safety protocols.
- Prepare reports on dispatch activities, driver performance, and operational efficiency.
- Perform special assignments/projects as required.
Requirements
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to multitask and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
Requirements:
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- Must work independently and as a part of a larger group by possessing excellent organization, accuracy, teamwork, and follow-up communication skills.
- Computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel, Outlook & Teams) is a must-have skillset.
- Must be able to work full-time in the office, Monday-Friday, 8am to 5pm, at the headquarters in Ambridge, PA.
