The Role

Extended Day is our after-school programming, so extended day teachers assist in providing appropriate supervision to a group of students after school; and in the planning and teaching of interactive, creative, and engaging activities. MSS Extended Day Teachers combine the ability to motivate, engage and educate students in a positive and supportive learning environment. MSS Extended Day Teachers have a growth mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in providing appropriate supervision to a group of students
  • Assist in establishing a positive, supportive and engaging learning environment
  • Provide homework assistance
  • Assist in the planning and teaching of interactive, creative and engaging activities
  • Assist in the cleaning / straightening of classroom and equipment before, during, and after the program
  • Improve professional competence through continuous development opportunities
  • Support outstanding academic achievement and student character development
  • Build classroom community and relationships with families, participating in a powerful team that ensures all students make outstanding progress
  • Adapt teaching for the benefit of each student and collaborates with other educators for support and ideas
  • Commit to constant professional and personal growth through reflection, feedback, and collaboration
  • Model MSS' Path to Success skills and supports the development of those skills in students and peers
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisor

Skills and Characteristics

  • Exemplify MSS' core values with all interactions including students, families, and / or colleagues
  • Experience with teaching / supervising young children (preschool / elementary age) required
  • Ability to inspire, motivate and engage children
  • Strong instructional and classroom management skills
  • Goal-oriented and seeks to improve skills through constructive feedback
  • Team player : maturity, humility, strong work ethic, follow-through, high EQ, willingness to respond positively to feedback
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Ability to kneel, sit, stand for long periods of time
  • Educational Background and Work Experience

  • Minimum of High School Diploma, or equivalent, required.
  • CPR / First Aid training preferred; will be provided if necessary
  • Active SC Department of Social Services (SC DSS) certification will be required if selected to serve our preschool aged students.
  • The opportunity is for the 2024-25 academic year and pays between $20.00 - $25.00 per hour based on education and experience. The typical schedule will vary based on your availability and assignment but will typically be between Monday through Friday within the hours of 3PM to 6PM weekly for the duration of the Extended Day program.
