What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dairy Herdsman position at Beer's Robo Holsteins, LLC?
Beer’s Robo Holsteins, LLC is a family owned and operated dairy farm in Mascoutah, IL that focuses on high quality and high production. Our family has been in the dairy business since 1965, and moved into a new free stall barn with 4 Lely A3 Next robotic milkers in 2011. Our focus is cow comfort and high production. We would like to add a self motivated herdsman to our crew.
Primary role- Manage the milk cow barn
o Pen up fetch cows (typically 3-4 cows per pen) and ensure they get milked in the morning and afternoon
o Move fresh cows from the calving pen to the robots to milk
o Observe and treat sick animals as needed
o Perform basic milking robot repairs and maintenance
o Assist the AI technician by identifying and catching cows and heifers to be bred daily
o Assist the Veterinarian with herd check
o Identify and pen up cows for the hoof trimmer
o Any other daily tasks that are required to maintain a healthy and productive herd
o Mix four batches and deliver feed daily
Secondary Role
- Feed calves on occasion
- Move calves from huts to group housing
- Help vaccinate young stock
- Transfer far off dry cows to close up pen for calving
- Observe calving pen throughout the workday
- Moving youngstock to next pen as they grow
Salary $50,000-$70,000 depending on abilities and experience.
