School Nurse for the After-School Program - 2025/2026
Qualifications and Licensure:
- Graduate of a Professional Nursing Program approved by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing
- Current license as a Registered Nurse by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
- 1-3 years experience in pediatrics, community health, education or related field
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing Preferred
Reports to:
Primary Manager - Nurse Leader
Secondary Manager - Director of Childcare Services
Job Goal:
To provide professional health services by following the BPS Health Services policies and procedures
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide and document first aid, emergency, and illness care provided to staff and students. Refer student or staff to MD or further emergency care as needed.
- Complete accident reports, and maintain a log of accurate health room activities while on duty as needed.
- Demonstrate knowledge of, and ability to administer medications appropriately, in keeping with school the policy and regulations on administration of medication in the school.
- Follow the BPS Nursing departments policies and procedures.
- Is a resource to the student, parent, staff and director in matters pertaining to health.
- Recommend exclusion and monitor readmission to program for students with infectious or communicable diseases.
- Work with Parents/Guardians securing necessary medications and consent forms for the after school and summer central programs prior to enrollment.
- Keep a working system to note expiration dates of medications and authorizations. Work with families to keep all medication current during all program operations.
- Ensure student safety and follow appropriate emergency protocols.
- Responsible for complying with policies as outlined in the program Parent and Staff Handbooks.
- May provide minimal toileting, feeding, and/or activities of daily living service to students.
- Advise the director/coordinator of any medical concerns and needs.
- Any other duties as required for the position.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Strength: Sufficient to assist with lifting and transferring a patient, and perform CPR and other first aid/emergency services. (Specifically, lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift or move 50 lbs.)
- Mobility: Sufficient mobility to bend, stoop, and bend down to the floor; ability to move around rapidly; and to move in small, confined areas. (Medium Classification according to the Dictionary of Occupational Titles ~ exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.)
- Hearing: Sufficient to hear and to discriminate sounds (whether through the stethoscope or while performing other medical services); to hear cries for help; to hear alarms on equipment and emergency signals; and various overhead pages.
- Vision: Sufficient to make physical assessments of patients, equipment, and surroundings.
- Communication: Able to communicate in both verbal and written formats; and interact with students, parents, staff, supervisors, and other emergency/medical personnel.
- Must be covid vaccinated

Thursday and Friday
Compensation:
Compensation is paid on an hourly basis @ $50 per hour
