What are the responsibilities and job description for the Contracts & Risk Manager position at BEI Construction?
BEI Construction is seeking a Contracts & Risk Manager to join their team. This role will report to the CEO and work closely with Principals, Division Management, Project Managers, Safety, outside counsel, and insurance brokers. The Contracts & Risk Manager will work to eliminate or minimize areas of potential physical and financial losses to the company and its employees by assessing the areas of corporate and personal risk.
Responsibilities & Duties
- Plan, design, and implement an overall risk management program for the organization
- Analyze proposal and contract documents to identify risks and opportunities
- Provide timely and accurate review and write-up of contractual language for construction projects
- Evaluate and recommend appropriate risk transfer, risk financing and/or risk mitigation techniques considered necessary for each project
- Work with project managers and senior management to negotiate contract terms with business units and clients
- Implement and monitor risk control tools
- Train project managers and senior management on risk mitigation techniques
- Oversee the Safety department, including personnel and processes
- Monitor and advise on workers compensation claims
- Evaluate Owner supplied (i.e., builders’ risk, OCIP) and other project specific as well as Subcontractor furnished insurance policies in order to ensure the adequacy of such coverage and to identify any gaps in coverage; recommend alternatives and solutions
- Ensure that all project specific insurance coverage and bonds are managed throughout the lifecycle of the project and the respective extended reporting period and/or completed operations period
- Review, compare, and negotiate all Company purchased insurance policies and complete renewals
- Work with legal counsel with regards to claims and lawsuits
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Experience
- 7 years of experience in the construction industry/risk management
- Strong understanding of risk management/mitigation within contracts, certificates of insurance (COI), safety, and workers’ compensation rules and regulations
- Knowledge and ability to review and provide written and verbal contractual analysis
- Understanding of construction industry insurance products and terminology
- Experience in managing insurance programs (AL, GL and WC)
- Insurance designations a plus (i.e. CPCU, ARM, CRIS)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, leadership qualities, and interpersonal capabilities
- Understanding of insurance markets (coverages, trends, pricing)
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
