Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Paraprofessional to support students with diverse learning needs in a classroom setting. The ideal candidate will work closely with teachers and other staff to create an inclusive and supportive environment that fosters educational growth and personal development for students with disabilities. This role is essential in helping students achieve their academic goals while promoting positive behavior and social skills.
Duties:
The Special Education Paraprofessional shall serve under the direct supervision of the Building Director and shall be responsible for the following specific duties:
1. Work under the supervision of the Building Director and/or classroom teacher according to classroom management plans and routines set up by the teacher.
2. Assist regular and special education teachers implement Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
3. Assist with academic accommodations and help modify and correct challenging behaviors in the classroom.
4. Build and maintain appropriate relationships with the students.
5. Any other duties as assigned by classroom teacher and/or Director
Qualifications:
1. Paraprofessionals must meet one of the following requirements:
a. Completed at least two (2) years of study at an institution of higher education.
b. Obtained an associate degree or
c. Met a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate, through a formal state or local academic assessment of knowledge and the ability to assist in instructing:
i. Reading, writing and mathematics, or
ii. Reading readiness, writing readiness and mathematics readiness
2. The use of effective and acceptable techniques of human relations in dealing with students, staff members, other school officials, parents and the public.
3. Must be willing to work individually and in small groups with challenging students.
4. Must be able to treat school matters as confidential information.
5. Experience working with elementary or preschool aged children preferred
6. Pursuant with State of Michigan Student Safety Legislation all prospective hires must provide fingerprinting and background check results to the District prior to employment.
Job Types: Part-time, Contract
Pay: $13.50 - $16.27 per hour
Expected hours: 32.5 per week
