Purpose
Position is responsible for coaching student athletes in competitive Cheerleader techniques to prepare
them for events or competition.
Essential Job Duties
- Works with cheerleaders during practices and meets.
- Assesses skills and assigns team positions.
- Assists in developing a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time to provide both individual and team development.
- Works with the Athletics Director in scheduling facilities for practices and competition.
- Coaches and instructs cheerleaders, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
- Observes cheerleaders, during events and practice to determine the needs for individual or team improvement.
- Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior and provides proper supervision of students at all times.
- Follows established procedures in the event of an injury.
- Conferences with parents/guardians, as necessary, regarding the performance of their student.
- Follows state, regional, and district regulations governing the program.
- Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards cheerleaders, officials, and spectators.
- Follows established procedures for supplies and uniforms.
- As requested, participates in special activities to include parent’s night, banquets, award nights, and pep assemblies.
- Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.

Qualifications
- Any combination of training, education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school.
- Experience as a competitive Cheerleader coach at the high school level is preferred.
- Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills.
Necessary special requirements:
- Montana Driver’s license or the ability to obtain license within three months of hire date.
- Must be able to travel with the team as needed/requested for sporting events.
Physical and Mental Demands and Work Hazards
- Must have the ability to stand for extended periods of time.
- Regularly works inside with minimal temperature variations.
- May work outside to attend sporting events, which may cause exposure to varying temperature extremes.
- Ability to meet deadlines with severe time constraints.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
- Regularly required to sit and regularly walks and stands.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling.
- Hear and understand speech at normal levels, outdoors and on the telephone and speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly.
- Required to be able to hear conversations in loud environments and sporting events.
- May be required to lift or carry up to 25 pounds on a frequent basis with or without an accommodation.
- Guidance and reinforcement are usually available.
- Frequently involved in interactions which require oral and written communications.
- Exercises flexibility and the ability to shift from one task to another.
- Occasional travel/mobiility between schools, or between schools and the Administration office, may be required.
- Work area is generally a hazard free environment.
- Demonstrates regular attendance performing duties as described.
- Reports to work fit for duty with characteristics inherent to the position.
