Job Summary
Direct Support Professional / Relief Direct Support Professional will assist in providing self-help skills training and therapeutic treatments to individuals with developmental and/or physical disability.
DSP will also provide direct care to individuals receiving services and living in the group home and ensuring the health, safety and well-being of the individual.
DSP will be responsible for maintaining current and accurate record of all services provided to the individual, including medication management.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Activities such as bathing, grooming, and dressing to train residents in daily self-care practices
- Converse with individuals to reinforce positive behaviors and to promote social interaction
- Serve meals to individuals
- Restrain disruptive individuals to prevent injury to themselves and others, using prescribed methods
- Observe and document residents’ behavior, such as speech, feeding patterns
- Document, report, and review residents’ daily progress, needs, medical issues, and behaviors
- Transport or accompany in transporting individuals to and from medical appointments, activities, shopping, and other family outings.
Qualifications
- High School Graduate or equivalent. One-year experience caring for children or adults with developmental and/or physical disabilities preferred.
- Ability to recognize inappropriate or manipulative behavior in difficult or challenging situations.
- Ability to calmly and repetitively model appropriate behavior in difficult or challenging situations.
- Ability to react to situations, i.e., rescue, preventing a resident from hurting themselves.
- Valid Virginia Driver’s license.
- Must have satisfactorily completed and have current certification in Medication Administration Management, Behavioral Management, First Aid, CPR, Person- Center Training, Human Rights Training,
- Emergency Preparedness and Infection Control Training, and other training requirements prior to employment, and all DBHDS and Medicaid Waiver required training and retraining on annually basis and documented in employees’ personnel records.
- Must have a current TB test within the last thirty (30) days prior to employment.
- Must submit to a social service registry check and criminal background check and provide fingerprint cards.
- Working knowledge of DBHDS regulations, Human Rights regulations and the confidentiality and security of records.
The Direct Support Professional must also have a working knowledge of Individual Service Plans (ISP), Orientation Workbook Training. ·

Pay: $16.00 per hour
