Believer Meats is an innovative start-up revolutionizing the food industry through the development and commercialization of cultivated meat products. Leveraging cutting-edge biotechnology, we aim to provide sustainable, ethical, and high-quality meat alternatives to consumers worldwide. As we near completion of a new plant and prepare for commercialization, we are seeking a Test Kitchen Assistant to temporarily support our team.
JOB SUMMARY
The Test Kitchen Assistant will support the activities of Believer’s product development team by working in our new Test Kitchen. The Assistant will support tasting events and day-to-day kitchen operations.
Schedule: The Assistant will work 2-3 days per week from the end of February to the beginning of April (approximately). This is a dayshift role.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in the preparation of food for tasting events.
- Prepare elements for product testing and production trial runs.
- Operate stove, oven, fryer, and other appliances.
- Clean dishes, equipment, utensils, and kitchen surfaces
- Organize and label dry storage areas, refrigerators, and freezers.
- Assemble and set up kitchen equipment as needed.
- Manage grocery and supply deliveries including organizing lists and unpacking and storing food appropriately.
- Keep simple records related to kitchen activities and follow written to-do lists.
- Must consistently follow all safety and food safety protocols, guidelines, and procedures to ensure a safe working environment. This includes properly using personal protective equipment (PPE), identifying and reporting potential hazards, and actively participating in safety training and initiatives. A commitment to maintaining a culture of safety and minimizing risks to yourself and your colleagues is essential.
QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will have a combination of skills and experience to demonstrate the ability to fulfill all aspects of this job description.
- Strong organization skills and attention to detail.
- Basic cooking skills and familiarity with basic kitchen equipment. Restaurant experience preferred but not necessarily required.
- Knowledge of basic food safety and ServSafe/ Food Handler’s certification (or ability to obtain).
- Ability to regularly commute to Wilson, North Carolina.
- Authorized to work in the US (Believer is an E-Verify participant).
- Ability to pass pre-employment background screening, credit check, and drug test (if applicable).

- Mobility: Ability to move efficiently throughout the kitchen and storage spaces including working in refrigerated and freezer spaces if needed. Frequently bend, reach, and stand for extended periods.
- Manual Dexterity: Use of fine motor skills necessary for safely and effectively handling kitchen equipment and ingredients.
- Physical Endurance: Capability to stand, walk, and carry items throughout shift.
- Visual and Auditory Acuity: Clear, color vision (with or without correction) to read labels, organize and inspect inventory, and evaluate dishes. Ability to hear kitchen alarms and respond to cues from team members.
- Lifting and Carrying: Ability to lift 30 pounds to lift and transport equipment and supplies.
