Job Summary
BELL Construction is hiring for a Senior Accountant to join their team in Brentwood, TN. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for the day-to-day accounting of various areas, including reporting and analytics, job cost accounting, expense reports, and invoices.
Job Responsibilities
- Assists all members of the project team with project-related accounting tasks.
- Performs various tasks to assist with the monthly financial close, including making journal entries and reconciling various General Ledger (GL) accounts.
- Prepares or assists with monthly and annual billing and tax documentation preparation, such as sales and use tax, withholding, IFTA, and business tax.
- Posts cash receipt of customer pay applications.
- Completes company credit applications.
- Posts customer progress billings.
- Reviews setup of new project budgets, subcontracts, purchase orders, & change orders in Viewpoint.
- Assists with month end accounting close.
- Assists with the management of the subcontractor prequalification process.
- Subject Matter Expert on Reporting & Data Analytics Software (Prophix) implementation, training and ongoing report creation and data analysis.
- Reviews and processes employee credit cards and cash expense reports.
- Provides support and training to end users of accounting systems.
- Processes monthly payments for Wright Express, Office Depot and other vendor accounts as needed.
- Performs journal entries and job costs for projects.
- Provides accounting support for audits and collaborates with external parties to provide necessary documentation and explanations.
- Assists with planning and forecasting of project financials and oversight of budgets.
- Files miscellaneous business tax returns monthly and quarterly.
- Assists project management and support teams in the operation and management of accounting systems and functions such as billing, purchase orders, subcontracts, payroll and equipment.
- Recommends and implements modifications to improve existing accounting procedures and internal controls, in accordance with GAAP.
- Participates in special projects in support of the Accounting Leadership team.
- Performs additional responsibilities as requested.
Education & Experience
- Minimum required – Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. Master’s Degree and/or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
- Minimum required – Five (5) years of accounting experience. Previous experience in construction accounting preferred.
Knowledge & Skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Word.
- Ability to adapt quickly to accounting software - proficiency in Viewpoint, Timberline or other large construction industry financial/accounting system preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of GAAP, FASB regulations, internal controls, and construction industry accounting practices, as well as federal, state, and local regulations and requirements.
- Files annual reports and updates license matrix accurately and on time.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal, analytical and organizational skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines, work under pressure, multi-task, and work in a team environment or independently.
