POSITION SUMMARY
Head Lifeguard has the responsibility of maintaining order at the pool facility by preventing accidents through the enforcement of policies, rules, regulations, and ordinances governing the conduct of patrons as well as supervision of lifeguard staff. Head lifeguards are expected to set a strong customer service example for lifeguard staff while aiding with on-the-job training and instruction. Head Lifeguards are also responsible for monitoring the pool facilities for potential hazards or unsafe conditions, providing first aid to patrons, custodial duties in maintaining the pool facilities, customer service, and all other duties as necessary or required. This position requires weekend and holiday work.
REQUIREMENTS, ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following :
- Maintains constant surveillance of patrons at the facility; acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of emergency.
- Supervises lifeguard staff and ensures standard operating procedures are always being followed.
- Monitors inclement weather and consults with Aquatics Manager regarding potential closings.
- Accurately check and evaluate water chemical balance.
- Effectively communicate with the public and lifeguard staff, be courteous, and straightforward when communicating policies
- Assists Aquatics Manager with concessions including ordering, stocking, and inventory.
- Carry out all duties assigned by the Aquatics Manager and delegate duties to lifeguards as needed.
- Perform First Aid and CPR.
- Watch the assigned area in rotation to prevent accidents and injuries. See that necessary precautions are observed to ensure the health, safety, & welfare of patrons.
- Enforce the swimming pool rules and regulations and adhere to the policies of the facility and aid in controlling the behavior of those patrons who use the facility. (Remind patrons of pool rules when necessary, in a polite, firm manner, and contact management if necessary.)
- Provide excellent customer service.
- Document and report all accidents to the Aquatics Manager.
- Conducts custodial duties to maintain a clean facility including but not limited to bathrooms, trash picked up in and outside of facility, pool vacuumed.
- Inform the Manager when supplies are needed and if equipment needs repaired.
- Attending all scheduled staff meetings and training courses.
- Check all gates and doors at closing time.
- Other duties as assigned or as required.
- Report promptly at assigned time of duty and remain on duty status until the designated shift has been completed.
- Arrive in, and stay in, appropriate uniform while on duty.
- Works front counter and Point of Sale (POS) system selling daily admissions and merchandise.
- Completes daily cash reports.
- Assists with stocking merchandise.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
REIMBURSEMENT POLICY
Requirements : To be eligible for reimbursements, the following criteria must be met :
New Hires : A copy of the lifeguard’s certification must be presented prior to being hired.
Re-Certified Lifeguards : A copy of the lifeguard’s new certification must be represented before returning to lifeguard duty.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Physical exertions to manually move, lift, carry, or push heavy objects (up to 50 pounds). Climbing in and out of the swimming pool, up and down ladders. Being alert on stand in high heat and sunlight from 30 minutes, up to 1 hour.
