POSITION SUMMARY
The Lakes and Parks Grounds Worker 1 performs general maintenance and upkeep of the existing lakes and parks along with light construction within those facilities. May require independent judgement in the disposition of routine matters without direct supervision. Will work under the direct supervision of the Lakes and Parks Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides support for the department. In addition to other duties as assigned, will provide various manual duties which are performed under the immediate direction of the Lakes and Parks Grounds Maintenance Worker II or the Lakes and Parks Superintendent. Many work assignments, such as the ones listed under “Examples of Work” are repetitive in nature and, once learned, can be carried out independently or with limited supervision.
- Operate hand and power tools
- Operate small power-driven equipment such as drills, power washers
- Able to operate different types of gas powered water crafts safely
- Maintain lake parks and dam areas by tree trimming and weed management
- Perform minor repairs and maintenance to park pavilions
- Maintain docks, launch ramps and signs
- Maintain the RV Park area
- Trash and litter removal at parks and dams
- Repair and paint the lake boat docks and fishing facilities
- Brush hog the front and back of all dams and spillways
- Perform selective burning
- Patch potholes in the parking areas
- Maintain building and grounds in the RV storage area
- Document and Report problems to other departments
- Perform collection and sinking of fish habitat
- Placement of lake buoys for special lake events (4th of July)
- Construct boat mooring signs as needed
- Perform storm damage cleanup; tree removal
- Keep all boat ramps open and clear of obstructions
- Ensure all park restrooms are clean and in working order
- Perform dam inspections and repairs
- Issue work orders for repairs to be completed by other departments
- Maintain all tools and trucks in clean and useable condition

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have a High School education or up to six months related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Work requires continual attention to details.
- Must exhibit excellence in Customer Service with all customers.
- To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

- They must be familiar with Arkansas boating safety regulations and basic carpentry.
- They should be capable of operating tractor equipment such as backhoes and forklifts.
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license and pass an annual DOT physical.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is not regularly required to sit. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is required to stand, walk; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Greater than 50 pounds may require a team lift. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. Specific required movements include the following: trunk-bend, twist, rotate, push, pull, and carry, arm’s reach, and leg-lifts.
