POSITION SUMMARY
The Leak Detection Technician performs leak detection monitoring of Bella Vista POA water utility pipelines to maintain utility infrastructures. This position pinpoints water leaks using electronic listening equipment and microprocessor computer leak correlators. Maintains leak detection database for water losses and reporting. Routinely provides leak detection service and supports all Operations and Maintenance departments. Marks in white paint and reports said location to supervisor. Evaluates system, locating and identifying system water line leaks, pinpointing for repair crews. Will use monitoring equipment designed for leak detection. May require independent judgment in the disposition of routine matters without direct supervision. Will work under the direct supervision of the Water Superintendent
REQUIREMENTS, ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operates leak equipment including acoustic ground microphones, loggers, correlators and other devices to listen to and interpret quality and type of sounds to detect leaks in the water distribution system.
- Performs sequential actions to locate leaks by applying knowledge of leak detection practices and reading and interpreting water distribution maps and drawings, marking with white paint for Arkansas One Call.
- Sets up barricades or other traffic devices in the field to ensure safety in the working environment.
- Utilizes hand and construction tools to expose valves and water meter boxes.
- Works courteously and tactfully with customers and employees.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- Knowledge of the geography and street locations of Bella Vista Village is preferred.
- Must have the ability to read and write legibly.
- The ability to be thorough and meticulous is preferred.
- Knowledge of water distribution systems is preferred.
- Must be able to drive a company vehicle.
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Must have a valid driver’s License.
- Grade 3 Distribution Water Operator License through the Arkansas Department of Health, or the ability and willingness to obtain said license, is preferred.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to walk for extended periods of time and work in various weather conditions. Employee must be able to listen and interpret acoustic sounds in headphones. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is required to stand, walk; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee must routinely lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. Specific required movements include the following: trunk-bend, twist, rotate, push, pull, and carry, arm’s reach, and leg-lifts. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
