POSITION SUMMARY
The Lifeguard / Beach Attendant has the responsibility of maintaining order at the lake front beach area at Lake Avalon by preventing accidents through the enforcement of policies, rules, regulations, and ordinances governing the conduct of patrons. They are responsible for monitoring the area for potential hazards or unsafe conditions, providing first aid to patrons, custodial duties in maintaining the building, equipment, and taking care of customers. They will be responsible for collecting daily fees, handling money confidently, making change accurately, daily maintenance of canoes / kayaks and transporting them to launch sites. May require independent judgment in the disposition of routine matters without direct supervision. Will work under the direct supervision of the Aquatics and Facility Manager.
REQUIREMENTS, ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following :
Provides support for the department. In addition to other duties as assigned, will maintain constant surveillance of patrons, act immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of emergency. They will carry out all duties assigned by the Director of Recreation and Head Lifeguard. They will perform First Aid and CPR when needed.
Watches the assigned area to prevent accidents and injuries.
Sees that necessary precautions are observed to insure the health, safety, & welfare of patrons.
Enforces the swimming rules and regulations and adheres to the policies of the area and aids in controlling the behavior of patrons.
Reminds patrons of rules when necessary, in a polite, firm manner, and contact management if necessary.
Provides excellent customer service.
Documents and reports all accidents to the Director of Recreation.
Conducts custodial duties to maintain a clean area including but not limited to bathrooms, trash picked up.
Inform the Director or Head Lifeguard when supplies are needed and if equipment needs repaired.
Attending all scheduled staff meetings and training courses.
Check all area prior to leaving.
Reports promptly at assigned time of duty and remains on duty until the designated shift has been completed.
Arrives in, and stays in, appropriate uniform while on duty.
Works Point of Sale (POS) system renting items such as kayaks and assists patrons by dragging them into the lake.
Completes daily cash reports.
Assists with stocking merchandise.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
Must be at least 15 years of age.
This position requires weekend and holiday work.
Work requires continual attention to details.
Must exhibit excellence in Customer Service with all customers.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must possess current Lifeguard and CPR / First Aide certification by American Red Cross, YMCA, Ellis, or other comparable certifications.
REIMBURSEMENT POLICY
- 50% of course cost after completing the season and meeting the below requirements once every two years :
Requirements : To be eligible for reimbursements, the following criteria must be met :
Lifeguards must work a minimum of 280 hours during the entire pool season.
Lifeguards must work a minimum of 40 days during the pool season.
A lifeguard must have an on target or better employee review. Lifeguard reviews will be completed in the month of August.
New Hires : A copy of the lifeguard’s certification must be presented prior to being hired.
Re-Certified Lifeguards : A copy of the lifeguard’s new certification must be represented before returning to lifeguard duty.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is not regularly required to sit. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is required to stand, walk; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and / or move up to 50 pounds. Greater than 50 pounds may require a team lift. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. Specific required movements include the following : trunk-bend, twist, rotate, push, pull, and carry, arm’s reach, and leg-lifts. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud, the air could be affected by the work area, and generally void of pollutants, may be exposed to wet and / or humid conditions, depending on the weather inside / outside the work area.
