What are the responsibilities and job description for the School Baker position at Bellarmine College Preparatory?
Bellarmine College Preparatory, a Jesuit secondary school, has been educating young “men for and with others” in the tradition of St. Ignatius Loyola, founder of the Society of Jesus, since 1851.
The school baker will primarily be responsible for preparing, executing, improving recipes, and performing quality checks on all baked products made available to the school community and school events.

Responsibilities:
- Ability to prepare baked products such as bread, cakes, pastries, pies, and cookies
- Prepare all the necessary ingredients for baking
- Prepare dough by kneading, rolling, cutting, and shaping dough
- Prepare baking sheets by filling pans and molds
- Ability to decorate using creative techniques and arrange all baked items in a presentable fashion
- Ability to follow precise recipes and utilize baking techniques to produce delicious and visual appealing products
- Ability to adjust oven temperatures to ensure proper baking
- Recommend recipes to revise and/or update current offerings
- Fill wrap and package products with ingredients label
- Manage needed supplies and inventory levels
- Ability to adhere to all food safety and quality standards and procedures
- Ability to work calmly and be focused in a face-paced environment and meet timings of baked goods completed on time for opening and delivery
- Maintain clean working station and ensure items are restored and equipment are sanitized
- Other duties assigned as needed
Qualifications:
- 2 years’ experience as a baker or similar role preferably in a bakery/retail environment
- Familiarity with all professional kitchen equipment, including mixers, blenders, and dough sheets
- Ability to work independently and complete baking needs on time
- Ability to decorate using a pastry bag
- Understanding of food safety practices and procedures (sanitation, decontamination, etc.) and willingness to always follow them
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong time-management and multi-tasking skills
Preferred Requirements:
- Bilingual – English and Spanish
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift/carry up to 50 pounds regularly, using proper lifting techniques
- Ability to sit, stand, stoop, walk, bend, twist, use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, twist, push balance, and climb a ladder (or other similar stepping aid) as needed
- Ability to read information in printed material, on a mobile device, or computer screen
General Information:
- Compensation: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour; DOE
- This position is classified as a Regular, Full-Time position
- This position is Non-Exempt (hourly)
- Work hours are typically Monday – Friday from 6:00am – 2:00pm
- This position is eligible to participate in Bellarmine’s excellent benefits package
- This is not a telecommuting position
