Licensing and certification: State certified Education: At least a high school diploma – some college preferred Experience: Minimum of one year nursing home or hospital related field work. Interests in crafts, art and music are desirable. Hands-on experience teaching games and related activities is key. As Activity Director your must have an ability to wear a smile all day long and must have a genuine interest in the elderly. Key traits are patience, tact, good listening skills, initiative, imagination, enthusiasm and creativity. Knowledge of state requirements for activities is crucial. Must have completed a state approved Activities Director course and must have one year of full time experience in a patient activities program in a health care setting. 1. Plan, organize and coordinate an activity program according to established polices. 2. The Activity Director posts a calendar of events monthly and each resident is given a copy and invited to all activities. 3. Activity Directors keeps up with current regulations from the state. 4. Regular paperwork follows for these regulations: Assessments of each resident and formulates a written plan of care, reviews and updates plan of care, records continuing progress notes on the resident’s activities and the response of the resident to the activity program. 5. Participates in the development and review of the total care plan. 6. Attends Staff meetings, family meetings to insure proper activities are offered every resident. 7. Purchases necessary supplies and prizes as per the budget allows. 8. Volunteers are sought for entertainment and various fun experiences for residents and staff. Assist in developing and coordinating the Resident Council and attends meetings when invited. 10. Keep on the sunnyside. The Activity Director often sets the temperature of the Nursing Facility. Working hours: 8:00 am to 5:00 pm with one hour off for lunch each day or as assigned by supervisor. However, some activities must be scheduled in the evenings and some on weekends for special events. • This description is not intended to be all-inclusive.
