TITLE:  Academic/Title I Educational Assistant                                                                     REVISED 12/11/23       

5.5 hours/day, 181 school days/year (10:15 - 3:45)                                                                     APPROVED 02/26/24 

$19.35/hour (based on PSERS years)

                                     

QUALIFICATIONS: 

 

     1. Minimum two (2) years post-secondary (48 credits), Associate Degree, or passing score on the Title I Paraprofessional             Assessment test administered through I.U.5.

  1. Computer and office skills preferred.
  2. Good communication skills required.
  3. Ability to work with elementary age students in a supportive and guiding capacity.
  4. Knowledge of elementary school office, attendance, and library preferred.
  5. Willingness to learn new software or equipment as needed.
  6. Such alternatives to the above as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

 

JOB GOAL: Support the delivery of the educational program to students.

           

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assist the teacher with non-instructional duties and in guiding and supervising students.
    1. Work with individual or small groups of students, reinforcing instruction as directed by the teacher.
    2. Support students completing classroom assignments, homework, and projects.
    3. Assist teacher with routine detailed or clerical duties.
    4. Prepare reports and documentation as required.
  2. Observe and manage behavior of students in the classroom, lunch areas, playground, and bus loading according to approved procedures.
    1. Follow established procedures to ensure a safe learning environment.
    2. Monitor student behavior in support of the school’s Title 1 plan.
    3. Report progress regarding student performance and behavior.
  3. Provide support in the school office with various duties.
    1. Support school operations by assisting with front door security, phones, mailings, filing, attendance, document preparation, library and/or computer data entry.
    2. Perform a variety of clerical duties in support of school activities.
  4. Any other duties assigned by the Superintendent or their designee.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  1. Ability to sit, talk, and hear.
  2. Ability to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and move quickly when necessary to promote student learning and/or safety.
  3. Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  4. Ability to push items of 50 lbs. such as pushing children in a wheelchair or moving/rearranging furniture. 

SENSORY ABILITY:

  1. Ability to speak clearly and distinctly.
  2. Auditory acuity to be able to use telephone.
  3. Visual acuity to read correspondence and computer screen.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  1. Indoor and outdoor environments.

TEMPERAMENT:         

  1. Ability to work as a member of a team.
  2. Must be courteous.
  3. Must be cooperative, congenial, service-oriented, and promote these qualities in the building.
  4. Ability to work in an environment with frequent interruptions.

COGNITIVE ABILITY:

  1. Ability to follow written and verbal directions.
  2. Ability to demonstrate good written and verbal skills.
  3. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to students, staff, and other employees of the organization.
  4. Ability to read, write, and do computations.
  5. Ability to work independently and make work-related decisions.
  6. Ability to complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
  7. Ability to exercise good judgment in prioritizing tasks, and problem-solving.
  8. Ability to use correct grammar, sentence structure, and spelling.
  9. Ability to communicate effectively at all organizational levels.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Hired annually. Work year and salary as determined by the Millcreek Educational Assistants Meet and Discuss Agreement.
