SENIOR OPERATIONS MANAGER JOB DESCRIPTION
HOURS: 8 - 5PM, THURSDAY - SATURDAY; 8am - 4pm SUNDAY - MONDAY, full time exempt. Salary range starts at $55,000 annually. Negotiable based on experience.
REPORTS TO: EXECUTIVE MEDICAL DIRECTOR.
GENERAL SUMMARY: The BAHS Senior Operations Manager will be the manager on duty during the busiest days of operation, Saturday & Sunday. The BAHS Senior Operations Manager will be charged with managing shelter operations, including supervising the Placement Manager and the animal care team. The Manager will lead and manage the placement team and facilities teams to work with staff to assess all aspects of shelter operations. The Manager will collaborate with the Executive Medical Director to provide excellent care to all animals at BAHS. Also, included duties are assisting evaluation of animal behavior, assisting the medical team as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- MINIMUM 3 years of animal care experience
- MINIMUM 3 years of management experience
- Customer service experience
- Nonprofit experience
- Must be computer proficient and able to learn shelter software

REQUIREMENTS:

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:
WEEKEND MANAGER
- Collaborate with Executive Director and Executive Medical Director to create strategic weekly plans for shelter operations
- Responsible for implementing strategic weekend operational plans and providing weekend reporting to Executive Medical Director on Mondays
- Lead and manage shelter staff and volunteers including placement, adoption, foster, volunteers, facilities management, and intake and medical staff, serving as manager on duty Saturday/Sunday
- Manage strategic plan and budget for shelter and shelter operations
ANIMAL CARE
- Manage and train teams responsible for cleaning and enrichment for all BAHS animals
- Ensure timely tracking of BAHS animal enrichment activities
- Clean dog kennels/cat enclosures daily following protocol set by Executive Medical Director
- Assist medical staff with intake, surgery, and other medical procedures as needed
- Provide guidance on intake and ongoing care of animals from entry into shelter through adoption process
- Develop and train on proper cleaning protocols
- Train staff and volunteers on proper shelter, facilities, volunteer, community service, adoption, foster, intake, medical, and enrichment protocols
- Manage doggie playgroups and overall animal enrichment programs
MANAGEMENT (GENERAL)
- Give suggestions and recommendations regarding hiring, firing and advancement or change of status of employees
- Train employees
- Evaluate employees and oversee performance reviews
- Set schedules and keep track of staff hours worked, vacation requests, and PTO for staff
- Make sure staff check/respond to voicemail and email in a timely manner
- Make sure doors are unlocked and staff are online and phones available
- Address employee concerns and enforce policies in BAHS’ employee handbook
- Provide customer service to our clients and address customer concerns
- Provide guidance and support to Placement Manager and Animal Care team
CUSTOMER SERVICE
- Respond to and de-escalate customer complaints over the weekend
- Serve as decision maker for animal intake on Sat/Sun
- Educate the public about proper animal care
- Educate customers and the public about animal care, health, behavior, and training
