BELLINGHAM PUBLIC SCHOOLS
TITLE: Unified Basketball Coach
POSITION SUMMARY:
- To plan, direct and supervise all phases of the Unified Basketball Program in accordance with the MIAA, Tri-Valley League,
Athletic Department and School policies.
- To oversee the psychological and skill development of student-athletes in the program.
- To develop each student participant to maximum potential in a program of skills, learning and improvements.
- Directly responsible to the Athletic Director, in liaison with the High School Principal.
- Works under the direction of the Varsity Head Coach to ensure that a consistent philosophy of skill development in students athletes is followed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assumes responsibilities as designated by the Athletic Director and Head Coach.
- Assumes responsibility for organizing, coaching and administering in a manner consistent with the total Unified Basketball program.
- Adheres to the adopted policies of the Bellingham School Committee.
- Follows the policies and procedures in the Athletic Department Staff Handbook.
- Follows sound coaching practices in teaching all skills including aspects of health and safety.
- Assumes responsibility for equipment inventory.
- Enforces disciplined and sportsmanlike behavior.
- Provides input and guidance to the students.
- Oversees the safety conditions of the facility or assigned area including the locker rooms.
- Coaches (teams) are required to facilitate two student sessions per week for their student athletes. These may be combined with other teams/sports to facilitate coverage.
SKILLS/ABILITY:
- Dedication to the School, to the Student-Athlete and to the Athletic Program.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the sport and the ability to demonstrate and teach individual skills.
- Ability to motivate the student-athlete to maximum potential.
- Professional in appearance and actions.
- Prior experience as a Freshman Basketball Coach preferred.
- Certification in CPR, First Air or the equivalent preferred.
- Employment as a member of the teaching staff preferred.
- Employment as a member of the teaching staff preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES and/or DEGREE REQUIREMENTS:
- Certification CPR, First Aid or the equivalent preferred.
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
You are required to be able to move about the gymnasium, or athletic field with coordination and stamina.
REPORTS TO: Athletic Director
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This appointment is subject to sufficient participation to appropriately support this coaching position. When designated by Athletic Director, Coach will drive students to/from athletic events where 14 or fewer student-athletes are traveling with the team.
