TITLE: DISTRICT WELLNESS COMMITTEE MEMBER
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Massachusetts Department of Public Health requires public schools to establish a School Wellness Committee. The regulation, 105 CMR 215.000, outlines the guidelines for creating and operating these committees. School Wellness Committees unite school staff and community representatives to focus on student health. Their responsibilities include recommending, reviewing, and implementing policies related to school nutrition, nutrition education, physical activity, and other health-related issues. The goal is to promote healthier school environments that support students' well-being.
The committee will comprise of stakeholders from the school community and the larger Bellingham community. Below is a list of prospective committee members:
Assistant Superintendent (co-chair)
School Nutrition Director (co-chair)
2- Physical Education Teacher (1- primary; 1- secondary)
2- School Nurse (1- primary; 1- secondary)
2- School Counselors (1- primary; 1- secondary)
2- Administrators (1- primary; 1- secondary)
Athletic Trainer
School Committee Health and Safety Liaison
School Physician
Representative from the Board of Health
Community Behavioral Health Provider
Parent who serves in a related field
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Members of the Wellness Committee will serve in an advisory capacity on the following topics and other potential topics connected to the health and wellness of students:
- Review district-wide policies that promote student wellness
- Establish goals, objectives, and an action plan, including plan for assessing the progress and effectiveness of the plan
- Plans for increasing community support and engagement
The committee will meet four times throughout the school year. Meetings will be held virtually, begin at 3:10PM, and last approximately 90 minutes.

SALARY: $33 per hour for meetings/work outside of contracted hours - subject to grant funding
