TITLE: SUMMER ENRICHMENT TEACHER FOR ENGLISH LEARNERS GR 4-5
POSITION SUMMARY:
This program is designed to involve English learner students in opportunities that allow them to continue their language acquisition in English throughout the summer months and to prevent language loss. The program is meant to be summer camp in style and offer a wide variety of hands-on activities (especially focused in the areas of the arts and science), read-alouds, outdoor play, and lots of opportunities for conversation in English! This position is subject to grant funding.
DATES OF PROGRAM: Summer Session - July 7 - August 7, 2025 (flexible number of weeks up to 5 weeks)
8am - 1pm (flexible up to 5 hours a day, up to 4 days per week) - In addition to the program hours, a teacher's schedule will include 1 hour of prep per worked day to be scheduled before or after class hours, or in thirty minute periods, one before and one after class hours.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Design fun and engaging activities that are culturally and linguistically sustaining, honoring students assets, prior knowledge, and full linguistic repertoire while encouraging their acquisition of English language skills
2. Select 'themes' for each week of learning/activities
3. Select appropriate texts for read-alouds corresponding to weekly themes
4. Select appropriate hands-on activities (incorporating arts, music, movement, games, science experiments, and so on) to engage students and offer opportunities for discourse
5. Supervise students at arrival and dismissal
6. Document learning experiences on template provided by EL Director
7. Share student experience summary/photos with families weekly
8. Follow all applicable school rules
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. MA Educator Licensure (Elementary) plus SEI Endorsement and/or ESL Licensure (Elementary) preferred
2. Current member of the Bellingham Public Schools faculty preferred
SALARY: $45 per hour (prep time included as described above), subject to grant funding
