The Job
The role of the Business Development Officer (BDO) is to build Bellwether Community Credit Union (BCCU) business deposit memberships, small business loans, lines of credit, credit cards, and ancillary services through robust outside sales. The priority target audience of the BDO is new-to-BCCU business relationships, with a secondary audience that includes expanding and retaining existing business memberships within the small business portfolio. The Business Development Officer is responsible for representing the credit union in the community while embracing BCCU's mission, core values and cultural foundation. The Business Development Officer takes personal initiative in meeting growth goals developed for the credit union, creating meaningful interactions with business and consumer members and prospects, and sets a positive example for others to emulate. Much of the Business Development Officer's time will be spent outside BCCU calling on potential business members.
Key Priorities Include
- Responsible for achieving established sales goals on a quarterly basis.
- Expected to generate new business and retain loyal, profitable small business relationships by providing valuable services and products to new and existing customers.
- Acts as a subject matter expert on our business products, processes and operations, and remains up to date on industry news.
- Solicits small business deposits and loan requests through outbound sales activities.
- Services leads provided through the Business Services administration team from small business members and prospects seeking assistance with deposit services and loans.
- Onboards small business/commercial loan relationships to Bellwether's loan and deposit systems, as necessary.
- Receives, inputs and processes new loan requests from Business members within the scope of authority via automated platform.
- Communicates with members on the status of their loan request(s).
- Closes small business loans as necessary, within scope of authority.
- Cultivates small business and related consumer relationships outside of the Credit Union and provides opportunity for community recognition for the Credit Union, by participating in community groups/activities, networking opportunities, and other business development activities.
- Implements and carry out lead generation to create sales opportunities that support the sales goals of Small Business while creating referrals to Business Services and branch teams in alignment with corporate goals.
- Monitors production and achievement of goals.
- Office time should be used to review leads, qualify and schedule sales calls, update sales activities reports, and prepare proposals.
- All member facing employees must understand and comply with all BSA Regulations.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of bank or credit union experience to include strong knowledge of credit union products, services, and regulations.
- Demonstrated achievement in business to business sales and suggestive selling techniques.
- Excels at relationship building by developing, expanding, and retaining business and other key member relationships.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to ensure employee and member understanding.
- Innovation and problem-solving skills that include the ability to develop and propose solutions.
- Exhibit positive attitude and professionalism, displaying role-model behavior in all situations, and creates motivation.
- Ability to make sound decisions and exceptions to processes or procedures when warranted.
- Maintain NMLS# with the Federal Registry in compliance with the SAFE Act.
