What are the responsibilities and job description for the Utility Worker position at Belmont County Water & Sewer District?
Job Duties:
Maintains a safe and secure work environment. Perform various service skilled and unskilled tasks including but not limited to: repair & installation of waterlines, taps, hydrants, valves, fittings, etc. Manual labor such as: digging, spud bar, pick, jackhammer, etc. Read and repair meters. Perform vehicle pre-trip inspections. Mowing and trimming of tanks, pump stations, pits, etc. Cleans and maintains department equipment including hand tools, vehicles, workshop, heavy equipment, etc. Collect water samples including chlorine and bacteriological. Performs inspections. May perform other duties as assigned.
Major Work Characteristics:
Essential employee with mandatory overtime. Knowledge of safe work practices and procedures involving the use of hand and/or power tools. Ability to carry out detailed basic written and/or oral instructions. Demonstrate dexterity and skillful use of hands. Recognizes safety warnings. Stand, walk, or bend continuously.
Physical Requirements:
Standing, bending, squatting, kneeling, lifting and ladder climbing. Walking on a variety of terrains and compositions. Perform visual inspections. Use hand tools, power tools and operate motor vehicles successfully.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Education, valid driver’s license, and Class B CDL.
Understanding of state, county, and township traffic control laws. Ability to comprehend District maps, District standard detail requirements and construction drawings. Ability to properly complete paperwork including work orders, tap sheets, inventory, timesheets, etc. Ability to properly Collect water samples including chlorine and bacteriological.
Unusual Work Conditions:
May be exposed to various extreme weather conditions such as heat, sun, rain, cold, and snow. May work afternoon, night, holiday, weekend, or extended/elongated shifts. May be exposed to general outside hazards such as poison ivy and/or poison oak. Exposed to potentially dangerous heavy equipment and/or power equipment such as electric drills, saws, grinders, tapping machine, cutting equipment, etc.
