Grade Five Math and Science Teacher
We seek an innovative and versatile upper elementary educator to serve as one of two fifth grade homeroom teachers beginning at the end of August 2025. A qualified candidate will possess a strong enthusiasm, deep knowledge of, and familiarity with fifth grade students. This is a full-time, exempt, and benefit-eligible position. It is a ten-month position and reports to the lower school head. This position is not eligible for employer-sponsored relocation.
We offer competitive salaries and benefits, as well as a compensation strategy that prioritizes pay equity for faculty with similar years of teaching experience and relevant advanced degrees. Based on the minimum years of experience required for this role, the salary range for this position is $66,700 to $99,150 for twenty years of prior teaching experience.
Responsibilities
Create a rich, engaging, stimulating math and science program for fifth graders.
Have the developmental and pedagogical background to embrace this age group.
Serve as a homeroom teacher, help to lead community meetings, and engage with students routinely by providing coverage at lunch, recess, and dismissal, or as needed.
Collaborate with all members of the fifth grade team and all school faculty to design curriculum, particularly in math and science, and to support co-curricular programming and the development of students beyond the classroom.
Deliver math instruction using the Singapore Math curriculum.
Design and implement a dynamic and engaging age-appropriate curriculum in science.
Differentiate instruction and create a responsive curriculum to meet the individual needs of all students and support foundational skills.
Create an inclusive learning community that integrates diversity, equity, and inclusion and social justice pedagogy with upper elementary teaching and fosters authentic parent engagement.
Utilize anecdotal, informal, and formal benchmark assessments to assess and monitor growth in all curriculum areas (particularly math) and use data to inform comprehensive student reports.
Communicate sensitively, regularly, clearly, and honestly with parents informally and formally through parent-teacher conferences and semester progress reports.
Contribute to and benefit from collaborating with colleagues, including but not limited to partnering with the fifth grade humanities teacher to provide a consistent experience for both fifth grade homerooms.
Incorporate technology in the classroom in innovative and creative ways to enhance student learning.
Participate enthusiastically in all aspects of an excellent school, which could include serving as an associate teacher mentor, Capstone mentor, and/or middle school athletics coach.

Competencies
Possess knowledge of fifth graders and their developmental progression.
Ability to develop and adapt curriculum and differentiate instruction in math and science.
Ability to infuse diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice concepts and themes into academic and social-emotional curricula and inform teaching, classroom management, and parent relationships.
Establish and maintain strong home-school partnerships with families to ensure student success.
Strong collegial and interpersonal skills.
Effective written and oral communication skills.
Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree is required; an advanced degree is preferred.
Three to five years of experience teaching upper elementary is preferred; fifth grade teaching experience is preferred.
Training and/or experience with Singapore Math and equity, inclusion, and belonging work are preferred.
